Body
A one-year grant application to Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) that included continued funding for a volunteer transportation program was approved by the County Commission on January 25, 2012, agenda item #12-0017. Funding was awarded by KDOT to the Transportation Program. Transportation services will be provided by RSVP Volunteer Program volunteers in their private vehicles and they are insured through the RSVP Volunteer Program. The first contracts for this volunteer transportation program were initiated by the County in 2005. Term of contracts: July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013.
Alternatives: The County Commission could elect not to approve the contracts.
Financial Considerations: Cost center: Rural and Coordinated Transit District (CTD) 34035-254 (Internal Order Number 340359-12). Senior centers in Bentley, Clearwater, Garden Plain and Mt. Hope are reimbursed $7.00 per coordinated round-trip provided by RSVP volunteer drivers. The program budget for each of the four centers is $2,450.00, or $9,800.00 total.
Legal Considerations: The authority to enter into the Agreements is provided for by K.S.A. 19-101 and by K.S.A. 12-2908 for the cities of Bentley and Clearwater. Approval is by simple majority vote.
Policy Considerations: This action will benefit the well being of older adults and persons with disabilities residing in these communities to help maintain their mobility and minimize isolation.
