Body
Sedgwick County Fire District #1 (SCFD#1), a separate tax entity of Sedgwick County, Kansas, has a 50+ year history of providing comprehensive fire services to its constituents living in urban, suburban, and rural environments. Its Fire Prevention Division has a long, rich history of serving young persons as well as adults in diverse environments. The District hired its first public education officer in 1981 with the expressed charge to develop/implement public education/fire safety programs, which, up to that time, were non-existent. Accepting this challenge, the District developed the following programs. As a result of providing this service, over 10 programs were specifically designed to enhance public awarness and outreach. Due to budget cuts, the Public Education Officer position was cut from the Fire District Staffing Table. Programs have been diminished or cut altogether due to not having adequate staff to perform the duties. If awarded the grant, the position would be restored and programs would be presented as intended when the position was filled...
