APPROVAL OF THE MID-AMERICA MINORITY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL AGREEMENT FOR 2013.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the contract and authorize the Chairman to sign.

Background: The mission of the Mid-American Minority Business Development Council (MAMBDC) is to increase business development opportunities between majority and minority businesses and to strengthen our community.
Under the Agreement, MAMBDC will accomplish a number of objectives including:

- Provide Buyer/Supplier Forums and Corporate Roundtables that result in measurable bidding opportunities for women or minority business enterprises.
- Monitor subcontracting activities of certified minority business enterprises ("MBEs") and report dollars awarded yearly.
- Increase the current number of certified Minority Business Enterprise affiliate companies by 15.
- Provide monthly Certification Orientation and Training for small business owners.
- Provide assistance in the development of supplier diversity programs to corporate membership.
- Provide assistance to public and private sectors in the creation of supplier diversity goals.
2013 is the eighth year Sedgwick County has contracted with this organization. MAMBDC is a member of regional and national networks that bring additional resources to the community for the benefit of minority and women-owned businesses.
Analysis: The amount of the Agreement is $10,000.00 and it is included in the 2013 County budget
Alternatives: The County Commission could decide not to approve this contract and pursue other options.
Financial Considerations: Cost: $10,000.00 Funding Source: 48001-110
Legal Considerations: The authority for this action is K.S.A. 19-101, et seq. A simple majority vote is required.
