The original SFY13 State Block Grant Application for prevention and graduated sanctions programs was approved by the BOCC on March 14, 2012. The total award was $3,381,366 ($3,139,634 graduated sanctions + $241,732 prevention). This supplemental application allocates an additional $159,476 for tertiary prevention. Tertiary prevention is defined as "a program or service provided to youth and families after an incident of juvenile criminal behavior has occurred. the intervention is designed to prevent future incidents from occurring." The supplemental grant funds the following:

Juvenile Intervention Program (provided by the District Attorney's Office) - one juvenile coordinator position - $51,859

Detention Advocacy Service Program (provided by Kansas Legal Services) - case management component - $107,617

Grant Summary and Timeline: On June 6, 2012, the Kansas Juvenile Justice Authority (JJA) notified our district of an additional allocation to Sedgwick County of $159,476 for tertiary prevention programs. These funds are in addition to the amount our district previously budgeted in our SFY13 grant request. The total amount of prevention funding for SFY13 is $401,208. The supplemental application was developed based upon priorities established by the Sedgwick County Juvenile Corrections Advisory Board (Team Justice).
