Title

Renewal Agreement with Horizons Mental Health Center for Psychiatric Supervision and Consultation Services.

Body

Recommended Action: Approve the agreement and authorize the Chairman to sign.

Background: This contract is an agreement which outlines the terms for COMCARE to provide professional psychiatry supervision and consultation services for Horizons Mental Health Center's Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) staff, primarily in the areas of child and adolescent services. Horizons pays COMCARE $165.00 per hour, for up to three hours per week. Services provided through this agreement include evaluation, review, and monitoring the use of psychotropic medications for children, psychiatric consultation for Horizons staff, emergency psychiatric consultation for children attending Horizons, and communication with parents. This contract is a renewal and no substantive changes have been made from the previous agreement.

Alternatives: There is a serious shortage in our community of board certified child psychiatrists, and this agreement allows COMCARE doctors specializing in this area to assist other service providers to supply the care their patients need. Physician supervision of APRNs is required for patient care. Without this agreement, Horizons would have to find an alternative source for these important and specialized services.

Financial Considerations:

Revenue: Horizons will pay COMCARE $165.00 per service hour delivered ($9,675.00 generated in 2011)

Funding Source: 310656-13

Term: 07/01/12-06/30/13

Legal Considerations: The authority for this action is K.S.A. 19-101 and a simple majority vote is required.

Policy Considerations: All Sedgwick County policies have been followed in the development of this renewal agreement.
