Recommended Action: Approve the application for conditional use permit and authorize the Chairman to sign the documents.
The digital 9-1-1 radio system hinges on the proper siting of ten (10) radio towers. The Clonmel facility is critical to meeting coverage requirements of the new system and closing the associated coverage gap from the existing system. The proposed Clonmel tower site is located on County owned property and is the only new tower build being requested for this project. In order for the Clonmel facility to properly serve the intended purpose for the 9-1-1 radio system, a Conditional Use Permit for adjustments under current zoning regulations will be required. All other sites have been or are being successfully negotiated on existing facilities and commercial properties.
The specific location is necessary to complete the coverage network for optimal radio communications between 9-1-1 dispatchers and first responders in the field.
Alternatives: Deny the request. A denial will result in the halting of the digital radio system project.
Financial Considerations: There are no fees associated with the application process to Sedgwick County. The $838.00 application fee is being paid by the radio vendor, Cassidian.
Legal Considerations: The terms and provisions of Conditional Use Permit application have been reviewed and approved by the County Counselors Office. Approval is by simple majority vote.
