Body
The Sedgwick County Developmental Disability Organization was awarded a two-year contract with Kansas Rehabilitation Services in December 2010 to empower people with disabilities to achieve competitive, integrated employment and self-sufficiency. The SCDDO is encouraging a cultural shift that emphasizes the goal of employment among people with disabilities themselves, just as employment is an expectation for all working-aged individuals.

As one of the two Great Expectations Initiative contractors, the SCDDO participates in a statewide network of programs seeking to increase competitive, integrated employment outcomes for people with intellectual disabilities.

The Board of County Commissioners approved the original contract in the amount of $208,214 for 2011 and 2012 at its December 10, 2010 meeting. The Board has approved subcontracts with Bothner & Bradley, and Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation for 2011.

There are currently 77 individuals participating in the Great Expectations Initiative.

The contract revision conveys a modification to the budget for our project as a result of the Secretary of Social & Rehabilitation Services ordering a 3% reduction to most grants and contracts including the Great Expectations Initiative. The 3% reduction can be absorbed due to our 2011 subcontracts being awarded below budget projections. Funding is provided on a reimbursement basis from Kansas Rehabilitation Services. There is adequate time to plan for the amended budget for 2012.

Alternatives: The contract modification could be rejected and the Great Expectations Initiative Project would be ended in Sedgwick County.

Financial Considerations: The Contract Award will be reduced by 3% beginning July 1, 2011, and for the remainder of the contract through December 31, 2012. Year 1 wil...
