Title

Declare Bulls Sculpture Located at Britt Brown Arena To Be Surplus.

Body

Recommended Action: Declare the sculpture to be surplus property.

Britt Brown Arena has been closed, so the art piece that has been placed at its entrance for more than three decades no longer is needed by the County at the site. Pursuant to County policy, once it is determined to be surplus to the County's business needs, the Finance Division is charged with the responsibility of disposing of the asset.

Alternatives: The BOCC could determine that the sculpture is not surplus, and is needed by the County at some other location.

Financial Considerations: The sculpture is not recorded as a fixed asset of the County so determination that it is surplus has no affect on County finances. The Finance Division could attempt to sell it as surplus property and realize a monetary gain. However, the sculpture is in poor condition and requires an estimated $87,000 of restoration work to be salvaged; this need likely would inhibit any purchasers and diminish its monetary value.

Legal Considerations: per County Resolution No. 119-2004, County-owned property donations require the approval of the County Commission.

Policy Considerations: This action is consistent with the adopted policy governing disposition of surplus County property.
