Background: Sedgwick County has a Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 801 Stillwell. Studies have shown that the majority of customers come from within a 6 mile radius. In order to provide safe household hazardous waste disposal to our commuity, the County offers 5 Remote Household Hazardous Waste collection events each year. These events allow residents to bring such items as paints, oils, cleaners, solvents, and other chemicals for proper disposal at a location near them. This agenda deals with a contract for a remote household hazardous waste collection event at Haysville, Kansas The City of Haysville has approved this contract. The collection will take place on June 15, 2013 from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Haysville Chamber Building property located at 140 N. Main in Haysville, Kansas.

Financial Considerations: HHW has provided 5 remote HHW collection events every year since 2005. Funding for these events comes from the Solid Waste Fee and is included in HHW Services (fund center 43001-208, Contractual Services) as part of the 2013 Adopted Budget. The cost of $14,000 is based on the average cost of HHW remote events in 2012. The actual cost will vary based on the number of participants and types of materials received. There are no revenues associated with this event.
