Grant Summary and Timeline:
The Health Division has managed the WIC Program in Sedgwick County (SC WIC) for the past 44 years. WIC is a federal program administered by the Food and Nutrition Service of the United States Department of Agriculture that provides healthcare and nutrition focused services to:
A. Women who are pregnant, post-partum, or currently breastfeeding; and

B. Infants/children under the age of five.

WIC services include: nutrition education, immunization screenings, lactation support, referrals to community, and supplemental nutritious foods.

To qualify for SC WIC services, an applicant must meet the following criteria:
1. Household income must be at or below 185% of the U.S. Poverty Income Guidelines (currently $46,435/year for a family of four); and

2. Found to have at least one medical or nutritional risk factor; risk factors include, but are not limited to: overweight, dental problems, anemia, low birth weight, and/or prematurity; and

3. Live or work within Sedgwick County.

The Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2019 grant award in the amount of $2,147,692 for the Health Division represents an increase of $19,408 (0.9%) compared to the previous FFY 2018 grant award of $2,128,284. This funding allocation includes additional funding to offset the increased cost of employee health benefits, annual merit/compensation increases, and an additional 0.5 FTE breastfeeding peer counselor.
