Title
Sedgwick County Sheriff Position Reclassifications.
Body
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the reclassifications as presented and authorize the Chairman to sign the necessary paperwork.

The Sheriff's Office requests the reclassification of two positions on the Department's current staffing table.

The first reclassification would take a Detention Deputy to a Sheriff Detective (position 20000812).  The Detective position is needed to reduce existing caseloads for current Investigations staff.  Currently, Detectives are managing around 200 cases at any given point in time.

The second reclassification would take a Detention Corporal to a Detention Sergeant (position 20000578).  The Corporal position's duties will be absorbed through a third-party vendor agreement for the commissary.  The reclassified position (Sergeant) will oversee the new Mental Health Pod and the involved staff.

Alternatives: Do not authorize the reclassifications, which will impair the ability of the Sheriff's Office to execute its duties.

Financial Considerations: Estimated additional cost for the reclassifications is $37,754 for 2014.  No additional budget authority is requested.

Legal Considerations: The authority for this action is K.S.A. 19-101.  A simple majority vote is required.

Policy Considerations: N/A
