Title
Transfer of Staff Position 20003072 Senior Center Coordinator.

Body
Recommended Action: Transfer position 20003072 Senior Center Coordinator from cost center 31061-252 to cost center 34011-205.

Background:
The Senior Center Coordinator in this position acts as the senior center coordinator in the southeast part of the county, facilitating programs and serving as the focal point (a place where older adults can come for community resources and education to meet their needs) in the community for aging services. Prior to 2009, a traditional brick and mortar senior center, called the Brookside Senior Center, served this area. The Brookside Senior Center was funded through the Sedgwick County Department on Aging but could not meet contract standards and expectations. As a result, the Sedgwick County Advisory Council on Aging voted in October of 2008 to discontinue funding for the Brookside Senior Center. In 2009 the department began administering the Southeast Senior Center, which operates without its own facility through the use of other meeting spaces and community resources. A part-time Senior Center Coordinator was hired in April of 2009 to coordinate programs for the resulting Southeast Senior Center - the Senior Center Without Walls.

When the Senior Center Coordinator for the Southeast Senior Center was hired, a vacant part-time position within COMCARE was utilized to fill the immediate need for the staff position. Since then, the Sedgwick County Department on Aging has regularly reimbursed COMCARE for the costs associated with the position. Relocating the position from COMCARE to the Department on Aging will eliminate the need for Accounting to process a regular reimbursement from Aging to COMCARE for the position as well as more accurately reflect the nature of the work provided by the position and the work of the departments.

Alternatives: Deny the transfer of the position and allow the position to remain in COMCARE.

Financial Considerations: Tak...
