Grant Summary and Timeline:
COMCARE's contract with the Kansas Dept. of Social and Rehabilitation Services includes funds for the state to reimburse Via Christi for services provided to uninsured individuals involuntarily committed for mental health reasons. COMCARE administers these funds for the state and makes the payments through this grant. Via Christi invoices monthly. COMCARE staff review the invoices to verify patients are uninsured and that the stay meets the contract reimbursement criteria. The adjudicated invoices are then sent to the Kansas Dept. of Social and Rehabilitation Services for review and payment approval. COMCARE issues payment to Via Christi only after funds are received from the Kansas Dept. of Social and Rehabilitation Services. The original contract included $225,000 for payment for uninsured individuals involuntarily committed for mental health reasons, and the first amendment added an additional $200,000 and extended the grant through September 30, 2011. This second amendment adds another $118,000.00 to the award amount and extends the grant through October 31, 2011. With this second amendment, the grant award total is $543,000.00. No other changes to the contract were made.
