"Together Wichita 2014" donation to Sedgwick County Park.
Body
Recommended Action: Accept the donation and authorize the Chairman to sign a thank you letter.
Twenty-two area business have teamed together to host "Together Wichita 2014", a yearlong community-wide initiative to showcase the magnificent things that make our community special. Each of the 22 hosts is making an investment in the campaign and their contribution will fund this donation as well as several others within the community this year.
For the past few months, "Together Wichita 2014" has been working with Sedgwick County Park staff to find an appropriate space to create a place where families/individuals can go to take photographs and capture lasting memories against various backdrops within the park. We have agreed to call this area "Memories Park".
The donation is to furnish and install eight unique features that will provide visually interesting photographic backdrops for Sedgwick County Park visitors. The features will be located in a wooded area adjacent to the bike path near the center of the park. The features provided will be:
1. A rustic wooden fence section flanking the central creek bridge crossing.
2. A modern clean fence section flanking the opposite side of the creek bridge crossing.
3. An oversize Adirondack chair (approximately 10' tall) tucked in an cove of the trees.
4. A vintage truck made immobile and doors welded shut.
5. A 7' wooden arbor between the path and the stream.
6. An old wooden/steel wheeled 9" wagon.
7. A 6' wide spool placed in a clearing to be used as a whimsical tabletop.
8. An old vintage tandem bike permanently mounted and located in a clearing.
These features will be donated and installed by "Together Wichita 2014". The County will work together with them during installation insuring that they are safe. Together Wichita wants to provide care and maintenance for these features but Sedgwick County acknowledges ultimate responsibility for whatever features are provided in the park.
If in the opinion of park staff any of these features become problematic, it is understood that the County has the right to modify, repair or remove the item as it deems in its best interest.
Alternatives: Not accept the donation.
Financial Considerations: There will be no financial impact to the County other than mowing around these features which can be done with current staff resources.
Legal Considerations: Per K.S.A. 19-101, the county has authority to hold hold personal property for the use of the county.
Policy Considerations:
