Grant Summary and Timeline: In 2006 Central Plains Area Agency on Aging (CPAAA) became a Senior Health Insurance Counseling of Kansas (SHICK) program and began to receive funding to provide education and support to older adults and caregivers with Medicare benefits questions. This grant funding will allow CPAAA to increase the outreach to the dual eligible Medicare population and expand the training and Medicare counseling opportunities to individuals including those with physical, mental and developmental disabilities in Sedgwick, Harvey and Butler Counties. This agreement is for the period beginning April 1, 2014 through March 31, 2015.
The SHICK Coordinator and trained volunteers assist people with Medicare benefits questions. They help individuals with Medicare options, assist clients in determining what supplemental insurance is, discuss Medicare Part D plan comparison, and help caregivers understand Medicare benefits so that they can better assist their loved ones.
