Body

Sedgwick County has as one of its goals: To foster two-way communication with citizens and employees to build trust, confidence and teamwork, and to ensure informed decisions.

As well, two of our values are related to our interactions with the public:

OPEN COMMUNICATION -- The honest exchange and processing of ideas and information with the public, coworkers, staff, other departments, and administration.

ACCOUNTABILITY -- Accepting responsibility for our job performances, actions, behavior, and the resources entrusted to us.

We have worked hard to establish consistency in being thoughtful, open and transparent, providing as much information to our citizens as possible. The County website is one tool that we use to share information and to help provide opportunities for citizens to conduct County business. Through our website, citizens have:

• access to agendas, minutes and streaming video of Commission meetings

• payment of taxes and fines

• search for active warrants

• create maps

• buy memberships to museums

• find out information about recycling and household hazardous waste

• view the county checkbook, legal notices and current bids and contracts

• apply for a job and much, much more

In 2011, Sedgwick County had 2,717,711 visitors to our county website. Some of the interesting data about our site from our web trends tracking:

• Average visitor sessions per month, 226,476

• Most visited pages: home page, Sheriffs Office, Appraisers Office, Tag Office, Register of Deeds

• Busiest day of the week is Wednesday; busiest time is between 10 and 11 a.m.

• The top three web applications:

o Property appraisal and tax information

o Sheriff inmate search

o County internal phone directory

Recently, Sedgwick County was notified that the Sunshine Review organization awarded the Sedgwick County website with its Sunny Award. This award is presented by the Editors of the Sunshine Review to honor the most transparent government websites in America. Our Sedgwick County page scored an A transparency grade on the Sunshine Review Checklist. We are one of 214 government organizations, of 6,000 reviewed, that earned a Sunny Award.

The Sunshine Review is about state and local government transparency, engaged citizens and holding government officials accountable. The Sunshine Review collects and shares information about state and local transparency using a 10-point Transparency Checklist to evaluate 6,000 state and local websites. The Checklist includes such things as: budgets, open meetings laws, information about elected officials and administrative staff, audits, taxes and contracts.
