Body

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office received an announcement from the Kansas Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (KCJCC) of a Notice of Availability of Grant Funding through the State JAG Grant process. It was noted in the announcement that the primary use of JAG is to support various purpose areas including law enforcement programs along with six other purpose areas.  The purpose area of this application is law enforcement.  The Sheriff's Office is requesting funding for four Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) units including license fees and installation support.  These units will be installed on four patrol vehicles assigned to the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office.  This will help in supplementing current technology used to collect, organize, and disseminate intelligence information on targeted suspects.  With the ALPR, deputies can further investigate local wants and warrants, drug trafficking, Amber alerts and be-on-lookout (BOLO) for robbery, burglary, and homicide suspects.  The equipment will be used in hot spots, special events and serial crime events.  It will assist in proactively identifying drug offenders, career criminals, and members of organized criminal street gangs. Investigators will have a database which will aid in the apprehension of a violent offender and suspects in various criminal activities.
