Grant Summary and Timeline:  A grant request was submitted by the Kansas Association of Area Agencies on Aging and Disability (K4AD) to the Health Concepts Foundation to provide transportation for older adults that reside in Sedgwick County.  The Health Concepts Foundation grant would support the Central Plains Area Agency on Aging’s mission to “provide services to seniors in an effort to assist them in maintaining their independence,” by filling the gaps in and/or enhancing current transportation services, enhancing mobility options and life choices.  Rides would be provided for non-medical (recreational) services to improve the quality of life of older adults; including rides to church, social functions, family events, and congregate meal sites.  The cost of the ride will be paid to the transportation provider.  Ride rates will vary depending on the distance of the trip, and are based on an established fee schedule.

In order to ensure that the maximum number of people are served with the requested funds, rides will be capped at no more than three (3) per person, per month.  It is estimated that grant funds will provide approximately 500 rides to  address this unmet need.  Acceptance of the grant will have a positive impact on the lives of older adults by decreasing isolation, improving  mental health and  facilitating greater independence.
