CONSIDERATION OF GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $194,000 FOR FUNDING OF THE SEDGWICK COUNTY RURAL TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM.

Grant Summary: This is a one-year federal Section 5311 grant renewal that would provide continued funding for specialized general public transportation to rural Sedgwick County citizens. Service is available in all incorporated cities including Andale, Bentley, Cheney, Clearwater, Colwich, Garden Plain, Mt. Hope, Sedgwick and Viola as well as 18 unincorporated areas. The renewal would also continue funding a volunteer-based transportation program provided in Bentley, Mt. Hope, Garden Plain and Clearwater. The first agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation was initiated by Sedgwick County in 1995.

Legal considerations: Program authority is established by the Safe, Accountable, Flexible and Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), 49 U.S.C. § 5311 and public transportation for nonurbanized areas under the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA), 20.509. Approval is by simple majority vote.
