Body

The Mental Health Association of South Central Kansas (MHASCK) received a Substance Abuse/Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grant for the Mid-Kansas Senior Outreach (MKSO) project. The MKSO project is a gatekeeper program for at-risk seniors experiencing mental health issues, prescription misuse and abuse and other health problems that threaten their ability to live independently and safely in the community. The purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding between Central Plains Area Agency on Aging and MHASCK is to establish a working relationship to maintain senior wellness and ensure service delivery to improve the ability of at-risk seniors to live successfully in the community.

CPAAA will provide MKSO Gatekeeper partner training and will assist in the recruitment and training of volunteers to provide referrals, peer counseling, information and assistance and volunteer service. CPAAA will provide support services and will collect referral and project data on a monthly basis. MHASCK will provide CPAAA with $7,500 from the SAMHSA grant to be utilized for participation as a partner in the program.

Alternatives: The alternative is to not approve the MOU, in which case CPAAA would cease to partner with MHASCK to provide these services to seniors in the community.

Financial Considerations:

Grant revenue: $7,500 from MHASCK

Cost: $7,500 to provide services and reports

Cost Center: 34021-254

Term: October 1, 2011- March 31, 2013

Legal Considerations: SAMHSA was authorized in 1992 pursuant to Public Law 102-331. As the administrator of CPAAA, Sedgwick County may enter into the MOU with approval by simple majority vote.
