Grant Summary and Timeline: The Community Crisis Center (CCC) is one of COMCARE's eight program sites and is the site applying for grant.  The CCC opened at 635 N. Main in Wichita, Kansas, on July 24, 2015. COMCARE of Sedgwick CCC provides 24/7 access to integrated mental health and substance use disorder crisis services at a single location in Wichita. There are a variety of services that the new CCC provides, including:

•      24 hour walk-in assessment and crisis intervention service

•      23-hour outpatient crisis observation

•      Short-term crisis residential/stabilization services

•      Crisis sobering/detox services

•      Mobile crisis services

•      24/7 suicide prevention hotline

•      Peer warm lines and peer crisis services

There are an increasing number of law enforcement referrals to behavioral health crisis services at the CCC.  It is important for law enforcement officers to have a separate entrance to the building so it can keep them separate from families and other consumers entering the building.  Also, with the addition of the sobering and detoxification services at the Center, it provides a separate area for these consumers who can sometimes present with challenging and loud behavior.

The funds will be used to enhance security measures at the new Community Crisis Center.  There is a back alley entrance to the building at 635 N. Main that currently does not have camera and remote access.  With these grant funds, Sandifer Engineering would provide and install an intercom to view and communicate with visitors wanting to gain access to the Community Crisis Center.
