Grant Summary and Timeline: The Sedgwick County Department on Aging (SCDoA) is requesting a continuation of funding for the 3rd year of a three year grant award to continue from April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013. SCDoA has been the sponsor of the RSVP Volunteer Program since 2003. SCDoA plans to continue to support and provide quality volunteer opportunities to those age 55 and older. SCDoA will continue to provide a match of 30% in support of the program.

Volunteers are a highly valued resource and the RSVP Volunteer Program provides a link to local non-profit organizations that need volunteer support. In 2010 RSVP volunteers served over 80,000 hours and made an economic impact of $1.7 million. This RSVP works with 75 non-profit organizations and approximately 450 active volunteers who provide a variety of much needed services to vulnerable populations in our community. Some of the sites in which volunteers serve include: American Red Cross, Robert Dole Medical Center, the museums on the river, and Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. Volunteers serve veterans and military families, provide support for disaster preparedness, work to support environmental sustainability, and help seniors live independently. With this grant continuation RSVP will continue to match and provide volunteer opportunities for individuals age 55 and older. SCDoA will continue to staff the program with a full time director/program manager. SCDoA staff will continue to provide knowledge, experience, and expertise for the program.

Financial Considerations: RSVP is required by the Corporation for National and Community Service to provide a 30% match of the total program cost of $67,685. This total amounts to $20,306.00 which is used to support volunteer operational costs, which will be used from the Aging Community Services Fund Center (32010-205). Grant revenue and expenditures will be reflected in 34053-254.
