BODY

The Fire District would like to apply for a Firehouse Subs Foundation Grant. The Fire District would apply for a grant to purchase a Physio-Control Lifepak Monitor/Defibrillator.  The Physio-Control Lifepak 15 monitor/defibrillator is the new standard in emergency care for ALS teams who want the most clinically innovative, operationally effective, and durable device available today. The Lifepak 15 technology helps detect hard-to-diagnose conditions and improve patient care with noninvasive monitoring of carbon monoxide, SpO2, and methemoglobin. In addition, the Lifepak 15 offers temperature monitoring, which can be transmitted to other lifecare systems. Sometimes visual patient inspection on the scene is not  enough. The technology of the Physio-Control LifePak can be used to assess patients with respiratory diseases; can be used to verify the effectiveness of resuscitation efforts as well as assessing the adequacy of ventilation during medication administration or procedural sedation.

Grant Summary and Timeline: The grant application is due in March with an award to be issued in April and all funds must be expended by December 31, 2018.

The benefit will be in allowing Sedgwick County Fire District personnel to train on and gain familiarity with the same equipment that they will see used by EMS on emergency medical calls, it will further benefit the Fire District by providing a reliable diagnostic tool during Incident Rehab. Finally, the equipment will allow for enhanced communication between the Fire District and the local EMS transport agency minimizing time to accomplish tasks in critical situations.

The grant funding would assist the Fire District in concert with the local EMS provider in providing more timely medical care especially, in critical situations by allowing our personnel to train on and gain experience with the same equipment used by EMS services.

The immediate positive effect will be that on critical medical emergencies, including respiratory difficulty and cardiac arrest this equipment will allow the Fire District employees and EMS services to interact quickly and smoothly in providing emergency care.
