RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING CONTROL AND OPERATION OF WORK RELEASE PROGRAM.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the Resolution.
Body
The Sheriff of Sedgwick County currently operates and controls a work release program for convicted offenders. The Sedgwick County Division of Corrections has proposed to assume operation and control of the work release program. The Sheriff is in agreement with the Division of Corrections proposed plan. Transition of the work release program to the Director of the Sedgwick County Division of Corrections shall be substantially completed no later than March 1, 2018. The Sheriff and the Division of Corrections Director will form a transition team to carry out the expressed intentions of this resolution.
Alternatives: Do not approve the resolution.
Financial Considerations: The County has determined that a work release program operated by the Division of Corrections would provide a beneficial and cost-effective option to traditional incarceration for certain classifications of convicted offenders.
Legal Considerations: The Resolution has been "Approved As To Form" by the Deputy County Counselor. The authority for this action is K.S.A. 19-101. A simple majority vote is required.
