Title
Resolution Notifying the City of Haysville of a Segment of Meridian Avenue Which Has Not Become Part of the City by Annexation.
Body
Recommended Action: Adopt the resolution and authorize the Director of Public Works to send the resolution to the City of Haysville.
K.S.A. 12-520(e) provides that the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) may notify a city of the existence of a highway which has not become a part of the city by annexation, and which has a common boundary with the city. This resolution is a request that the City of Haysville (City) annex Meridian Avenue from 63rd Street South to 71st Street South, so that all of Meridian Avenue would be within the City’s limits. Accordingly, the City would be responsible for all future maintenance pertaining to the portion of Meridian Avenue that is annexed.
Per statute, the notification from the BoCC is required to include a legal description of the highway and a map with the resolution. Upon the City’s receipt of the resolution, the City would certify by ordinance that the factual claims in the County’s resolution are accurate and the City would then annex the described portion of Meridian Avenue.
Alternatives: To not approve the resolution so that the road remains under Sedgwick County control and maintenance.
