Title
Cancellation of Agreement with KDOT for Project to Construct Pedestrian Bridge over the Wichita-Valley Center Flood Control Project at Meridian and to Amend the Capital Improvement Program by Deleting the Pedestrian Bridge from Project B-462. District 2.
Body
Recommended Action: Approve the cancellation of agreement and amend project B-462 in the Capital Improvement Program to delete construction of the pedestrian bridge.
B-462 includes two projects located on the Meridian crossing over the Wichita-Valley Center Flood Control Project (Big Ditch). The first project element, which is currently under construction, is for major repairs to extend the life of the four lane vehicular bridge on Meridian itself. That project was let by Sedgwick County and is funded entirely with local funds. The second element of the project is construction of a separate pedestrian bridge that would connect the pathway/sidewalk systems north and south of the Big Ditch. This project is eligible for federal funds and under the federal program would be let by KDOT.
KDOT recently took bids for the pedestrian project and the actual cost is significantly higher than the amount of federal funds and local match that is available for the project. Public Works has recommended that the project be cancelled. KDOT has prepared a Cancellation of Agreement document for the Chairman's signature. Public Works also recommends that the scope of project B-462 in the Capital Improvement Program be amended to delete construction of the pedestrian bridge. The federal funds in B-462 would be deleted from the project budget but no change would be made to the local funding.
