Title
Changes to the Sheriff's Office Staffing Table.
Body
Recommended Action: Approve the change to the staffing table.
To more effectively manage the three primary operational Bureaus within the Sheriff's Office, the Sheriff has determined a realignment and reclassification of one position will allow for a more effective and efficient span of control. It is requested that the current Law Enforcement Major position (position 20000064) being vacated due to retirement be reclassified to that of Colonel/Undersheriff. The duties currently assigned to the Major's position will be assigned to the newly classified Undersheriff position. This position reclassification is the last step in eliminating both of the Major positions that were previously a part of the Sheriff's Office overall staffing table. The first Major's position was eliminated in 2014 when the position was vacated due to retirement. The duties of that Major were reassigned to the appointed Undersheriff at the time.
Alternatives:Do not approve the requested reclassification and impair the direction of Sheriff's Office realignment.
Financial Considerations: For 2017, the Sheriff's Office is not requesting any additional budgetary authority associated with the reclassification. Though the budget impact form lists a budget impact of $47,848 based on the grade minimum, the actual budgetary impact is estimated to be much less, as the original position was budgeted at $92,370 in the 2017 budget.
