Grant Summary and Timeline: In the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008, Public Law No. 110-275, the United States Congress authorized the Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to make grants to States for Area Agencies on Aging to provide outreach to Medicare-eligible individuals who may be eligible for the Low-Income Subsidy or the Medicare Savings Programs. The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) is providing grant allocations to each of the eleven Area Agencies on Aging in Kansas to provide enhanced outreach and to increase public awareness in their planning and service regions. A grant application process is not required by KDADS for these funds.

The Central Plains Area Agency on Aging (CPAAA) will perform outreach activities to:
1. Increase public awareness of the Low-Income Subsidy and Medicare Savings Programs.
2. Coordinate with KDADS and Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas (SHICK) programs to promote community events that encourage enrollment in the Low-Income Subsidy and Medicare Savings Program.
3. Identify community locations and coordinate the display of informational materials and promote enrollment in these programs.
