Title
TO APPLY FOR THE WAL-MART NEIGHBORHOOD GRANT PROGRAM AND ACCEPT IF AWARDED FOR THE PURCHASE OF TEN IPADS.
Presented by: Dan Wegner, Fire Marshal.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Apply for and accept the grants if awarded; authorize the establishment of budget authority in the amount of grants received
Body
The Fire District would like to apply for a neighborhood grant from Wal-Mart. Each Wal-Mart store has the ability to donate up to $2,500. The department would apply to two different stores for the purchase of ten iPads. The iPads will be used in the field to conduct annual building inspections; building plans review, hydrant testing and to help enforce the adopted fire code.
The department received 6 of iPads from the Sheriff’s department to start the Firehouse inspector mobile inspection pilot program. The program to date has been successful and we would like expand the program to all of the Districts fire stations. With the funding from this grant, if approved, the department will be able to place to more iPads in the field to help conduct inspections, and to improve the inspection process. This program will assist property owners in keeping their buildings up to code, and provide them with better documentation and records of their property.
Financial Considerations: If grants are awarded, the request is to authorize the establishment of budget authority in the amount of the grant awards in Cost Center 14001-241 for 2016.
