Background: Currently, the County and the Sheriff's Office do not have their own formal process for addressing issues with towing companies.
In 2012, the Wichita Police Department created a new ordinance changing the way they received towing services. In response to this change, Sheriff Easter tasked his Special Projects Unit with developing a resolution to specifically fit the needs of the Sheriff's Office.
Through research and open discussion with stakeholders (Finance, Legal, towing companies and other law enforcement agencies) we have created a resolution which formalizes the process for towing operations, meets the needs of the Sheriff's Office, and provides greater clarity for deputies involved in towing situations while maintaining fairness to tow companies.
