Grant Summary and Timeline: In 2006, the Central Plains Area Agency on Aging (CPAAA) began providing the Senior Health Insurance Counseling of Kansas (SHICK) program and began to receive funding to provide education and support to older adults and caregivers with Medicare benefits questions. This funding agreement will allow CPAAA to continue to provide SHICK counseling to seniors and their family members in Sedgwick, Harvey and Butler Counties. This agreement is for the period beginning April 1, 2015 through March 31, 2016.
It can be an overwhelming experience navigating through the Medicare maze. Eligible participants are bombarded with mailings and television ads. The SHICK Coordinator and trained volunteers answer Medicare benefits questions and help individuals understand available options. They help eligible participants understand what supplemental insurance is, discuss Medicare Part D, assist with plan comparison, and help caregivers increase their knowledge of Medicare benefits so that they can better assist their loved ones.
