ACKNOWLEDGE A DONATION OF DENTAL EQUIPMENT (VALUED AT $2,555.80) TO THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT CHILDREN'S DENTAL CLINIC FROM THE WICHITA DISTRICT DENTAL SOCIETY (WDDS).

Background: The Wichita District Dental Society (WDDS) held its annual Golf Tournament on September 5, 2014. Many of the dentists who participated in the tournament also volunteer their services in the Health Department's Children's Dental Clinic. WDDS elected to donate all proceeds from the golf tournament to the Children's Dental Clinic to purchase dental equipment.
The Children's Dental Clinic provides treatment to over 370 uninsured children annually. A number of these children have moderate-heavy calcified buildup on their teeth and Stage I or Stage II gum disease.
The Children's Dental Clinic has chosen to purchase a Cavitron Ultrasonic Scaler and 4 inserts, a powerful handheld instrument, used as the first line of defense when treating these conditions. The Children's Dental Clinic will utilize this equipment to treat and prevent gum disease, and over time, this will positively impact thousands of Sedgwick County children. The equipment will be provided through Patterson Dental, a sponsor of the golf tournament.
Alternatives: To not accept the donation from the Wichita District Dental Society; or purchase the equipment with limited funds and reduce the number of future children to receive services in the clinic due to the financial impact to purchase the equipment.
Financial Considerations: No monetary funds will be awarded; only the Cavitron and 4 inserts.
