Request for additional budget authority in the 2014 Risk Management Fund Budget.

Recommended Action: Authorize the establishment of $1,068,100 in additional budget authority in the Risk Management Fund for 2014.
Background: Due to significant authorized settlement costs that have been paid from the Risk Management budget thus far in 2014, operational expenses are anticipated to exceed the current budgeted amount. By providing the additional budget authority, Risk Management will be able to conduct necessary business for the remainder of 2014.
Alternatives: Do not add additional budget authority to the Risk Management Fund, which would cause Risk Management to be unable to pay for costs associated with departmental or citizen claims until 2015.
Financial Considerations: The Risk Management Fund has sufficient fund balance to fund the additional budget authority.
Legal Considerations: The authority of this action is K.S.A. 75-6110 A simple majority vote is required.
Policy Considerations: All Sedgwick County policies have been followed in the development of consent item.
