CONTRACT FOR A HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE REMOTE COLLECTION EVENT ON SEPTEMBER 20, 2014 FOR SPIRIT AEROSYSTEMS.

Background: Sedgwick County has a Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 801 Stillwell. Studies have shown that the majority of customers come from within a 6 mile radius. In order to provide safe household hazardous waste disposal to our community, the County offers 5 Remote Household Hazardous Waste collection events each year. These events allow residents to bring such items as paints, oils, cleaners, solvents, and other chemicals for proper disposal at a location near them. This agenda item addresses a contract for a remote household hazardous waste collection event at Spirit Aerosystems. Spirit Aerosystems has approved this contract. The collection will take place on September 20, 2014 from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm at Spirit Aerosystems, Parking Lot P, located at the northeast corner of K-15 and MacArthur Rd.

Financial Considerations: HHW has provided 5 remote HHW collection events every year since 2005. Funding for these events comes from the Solid Waste Fee and expenditure authority is included in HHW Services fund center (43001-208, Contractual Services) as part of the 2014 Adopted Budget. The cost of $14,000 is based on the average cost of HHW remote events in 2013. The actual cost will vary based on the number of participants and types of materials received. There are no revenues associated with this event.
Legal Considerations: The authority for this action is K.S.A. 65-3410. A simple majority vote is required.
