Body
Background: Sedgwick County Department on Aging has been providing transportation services to the aforementioned cities since 1995. As a result of the 2000 census, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) recognized these cities, formerly designated as rural, as being part of the Wichita urbanized area in 2004. Service to these areas has been a responsibility of the City of Wichita since then and they receive funding for urban public transportation through the FTA. Since 2004 the City of Wichita has entered into agreements with Sedgwick County to continue to provide service to these areas, with funding being passed from FTA through Wichita Transit to Aging's Transportation program. Transit services are provided by Aging's program both directly and through contracted vendors. FTA requires that service be offered to the general public.

Alternatives: The County Commission could elect to not approve the Agreement.

Financial Considerations: Federal and Mill Levy dollars support this specialized transportation.

Total program budget is $150,000 to be managed in Fund Center 34056-254 - Federal New Urban Transportation; 80% federal share is $120,000 and 20% County Mill Levy local match is $30,000. Local match funding was approved in Mill Levy budget Fund Center 35001-110 - Physical Disabilities. $120,000 in additional budget authority is requested for 34056-254.
