Title
In-range promotion for a Communication Equipment Supervisor.
Body
Approve the recommendation to promote Communication Equipment Supervisor above policy.  Wage $56,529.00
The position requirements of Communication Equipment Supervisor have increased over the past 3 years to include: maintaining Fire Station Alerting for Wichita, Derby, and Sedgwick County Fire departments, responsible for maintaining, programming, and monitoring for 600 data modems, 200 pagers, and the electronic systems in 350 vehicles, and acting as liaison with personnel from government agencies at every level.  The incubent currently earns $45,529.00.
Analysis:  Position duties have increased but the position still falls within the current band/range.  An in-range increase of $11,000, bringing annual salary to $56,529, is recommended to be commensurate with the job duties.
Alternatives:
Do not provide an in-range increase.  County may have difficulties in retaining incumbent or recruiting an experienced replacement.
Financial Considerations:
Wage and benefits for the current salary annualize to $71,407.  The requested salary falls near midpoint (61.9) of the pay range and increases the annualized wage and benefitis to $84,630.  The difference between the requested salary/benefits and the current salary/benefits is $13,223.  Funds for this increase will be utilized from the current fund center; no additional funds are being requested.
Legal Considerations:
Policy Considerations:
Policy 4.2001 states:
When the promotion occurs within the employee's current salary range, the increase in pay will be a two (2) percent to four (4) percent increase to current base salary per hiring authority direction.  The County Manager may approve up to an additional ten (10) percent increase.  Requests above the ten (10) percent additional must be approved by the Sedgwick County Board of Commissioners.
