Legal Considerations: K.S.A. 50-6,112a prohibits any business from purchasing regulated scrap metal without having first registered each place of business as provided in that statute. This requirement was added by the state in 2011. Registrations must be made to the Board of County Commissioners when the business is located outside the corporate limits of a city. This is the first such application for registration received by Sedgwick County.
The applicant has made registration on the form approved by the attorney general which was submitted to the Sedgwick County Clerk’s Office. A background check was performed by the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division to verify the application and no reason for denial was found. Notice of the application has been made to the Sheriff and to Gypsum Township by the Clerk’s Office. Notices to chiefs of police within Sedgwick County will be made as well. The minimum fee ($100) has been paid by the applicant.
