Title

APPROVE CHANGING THE SCOPE OF THE OUTDOOR WARNING DEVICE RECEIVER CIP PROJECT.

Presented by: Randall C. Duncan, Emergency Management Director.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the proposed change of scope of the Outdoor Warning Device Receiver Project as recommended by the report.

Body

The Board of County Commissioners approved a project in the 2009 CIP budget to update receivers for the 101 Outdoor Warning Devices owned and operated by Sedgwick County.  This change is necessitated by a Federal Communications Commission Report and Order reqiring the "narrowbanding" of radio frequencies utilized to operate the system.  As a part of the research into the project, it was determined that other key stakeholders (communities) in the system would be similarly impacted by the narrowbading directive.  A meeting of the key stakeholders was conviened, and the consensus was that a fair and equitable approach to solving this solution would include updating the receivers for the devices owned and operated by them.
