Title
SFY11 CONTRACT WITH WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY TO CONTINUE PROFESSIONAL CONSULTATION SERVICES TO SEDGWICK COUNTY.
Presented by: Chris Morales, Department of Corrections, Project Manager.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the contract and authorize the Chair to sign the contract.
Body
Sedgwick County began contracting with Wichita State University (WSU) for professional consultation services related to local juvenile justice programming in 1998. In 2008, WSU began providing research and evaluation support for the Community Corrections Risk Reduction Initiative and Drug Court programs. Professional consultation services include research, data analysis, evaluation reports and recommendations for improvement. The total contract for SFY11 = $34,625.
WSU presents annual program evaluation reports to Sedgwick County Board of County Commission, the Juvenile Corrections Advisory Board, the Corrections Advisory Board and the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council. The evaluation reports help local decision makers determine program effectiveness and necessary course corrections to put research and best practices into programs and services to help get the most return on investment.
Alternatives: If the contract is not approved, we will be less effective at preventing delinquency and reducing recidivism in our community.
Financial Considerations: Funds related to juvenile justice programs are in the Juvenile Justice Authority, County Crime Prevention and DMC Action Network cost centers: 33005-253 ($9,625), 36001-110 ($6,000) and 33056-253 ($5,000). Funds for the Drug Court evaluation are in 33025-110 ($3,000) and funds for the Risk Reduction Initiative evaluation are in 33014-253 ($6,000). Funding for the Criminal Justice Master Plan Follow-up is in 10001-110 ($5,000).
