Title

PROFESSIONAL SERVICE AGREEMENTS (2) WITH DR. MUKHTAR SHAH AND DR. LAURIE COYNER TO PROVIDE INPATIENT PSYCHIATRIC CARE FOR COMCARE CONSUMERS.

Presented by: Marilyn Cook, LSCSW, Executive Director, COMCARE.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the agreements and authorize the chairman to sign.

Body

The professional service agreements provide coverage for COMCARE consumers receiving inpatient treatment services at the local hospitals.  The agreements are all renewals from the prior year.  Details for each contract are provided below.

1. Mukhtar Shah, MD, a local psychiatrist provides inpatient psychiatric services to COMCARE consumers hospitalized at Via Christi St. Joseph and  Good Shepherd campuses.  Dr. Shah provides approximately 60 hours of service per month.  Dr. Shah has contracted with COMCARE to provide these services since 2007.

2.  Laurie Coyner, MD, a local psychiatrist provides inpatient psychiatric services to COMCARE consumers hospitalized at Via Christi Good Shepherd campus.  Services include consultations, charting, diagnosing and treating patients receiving inpatient care.  Dr. Coyner provides services generally Monday through Friday.  COMCARE has contracted with Dr. Coyner since 2007 to provide this service.

Alternatives:  It is generally accepted practice for COMCARE to ensure that inpatient psychiatric physician services are available to COMCARE patients presenting at the local hospitals.  Without these agreements COMCARE would be required to determine another method to ensure patients receive the services they need.  There is no change in the rate from the previous contract.
