Title

CONTRACT WITH MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT FOR COMCARE TO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION SERVICES TO MEDICAID CONSUMERS.

Presented by: Marilyn Cook, LSCSW, Executive Director, COMCARE.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the contract and authorize the chairman to sign.

Body

Background:   Medical Transportation Management (MTM) is the Medicaid broker contracted with the State of Kansas to provide non-emergency transportation services for Medicaid clients in the state to appropriate health-related appointments. The sub-contract between MTM and COMCARE of Sedgwick County outlines the requirements for reimbursement for transportation services provided by COMCARE to their Medicaid clients. The contract designates COMCARE as a Sole Source Provider, which means that COMCARE, who is already currently providing these transportation services to their consumers, would be eligible to receive reimbursement from MTM for transporting those consumers who are also Medicaid clients to qualifying appointments.

Analysis:   COMCARE currently provides transportation services to their clients for certain appointments. The contract with MTM offers COMCARE the opportunity to be reimbursed by Medicaid for some of those transportation services, generating additional revenue for the agency.

Alternatives:   Without the contract, COMCARE clients would continue to be transported as necessary and as appropriate, but the agency would not have the opportunity to be reimbursed for mileage expenses by MTM.

Financial Considerations:

Revenue:                                          $0.50 per mile would be paid to COMCARE
