Title
Donation of surplus computers from COMCARE to Project Independence (PI).

Body
Recommended Action: Approve the donation of five surplus computers.

Background: COMCARE has identified five computers which are considered surplus and no longer needed. Project Independence (PI), a small local nonprofit, is a consumer-run organization with very limited resources that offers important socialization services for adults with mental illness. Recently the organization's technology equipment stopped functioning and they lack the funding to purchase new computers. COMCARE would like to assist Project Independence by providing these computers that no longer meet our technology requirements, but would represent a significant upgrade for PI. The donation is a way COMCARE can support the work of PI without providing additional grant funding.

Per County requirements, the computer hard drives will be wiped clean by DIO staff prior to the donation.

Alternatives: If this donation were not approved, Project Independence would not be able to purchase new computers and this could affect the quality of their reports and services for their members.

Financial Considerations: N/A

Legal Considerations: The authority for this action is K.S.A. 19-101, et seq., and the Sedgwick County Disposition of Surplus Property policy, adopted by Resolution 119-2004. A simple majority vote is required.

Policy Considerations: All Sedgwick County policies were followed in the development of this donation.
