Agreement with the Wichita Radio Control Club for the use of a portion of Lake Afton Park for hosting a Jumbo-Fly-In Event.

Recommended Action: Approve the agreement and authorize the Chairman to sign.

 

This the renewal of the existing five year agreement with the Wichita Radio Control Club allowing the use of a portion of the Lake Afton Park for the purpose of sponsoring and holding radio control model aircraft racing events for a period of five years and specifically for hosting their Jumbo Fly-In event. Events shall be scheduled with the Park Superintendent no later than April 1 each year.

 

The term of this agreement is for five (5) years beginning on the date of execution.

 

Financial Considerations: This agreement has no financial impact on Sedgwick County.

 

Legal Considerations:

K.S.A. 19-212 allows the board of county commissioners to make such orders concerning county property as deemed expedient and to have care of county property. K.S.A. 19-101 allows counties to make contracts and do all other acts in relation to county property. K.S.A. 19-2801 et seq. allows counties broad authority to operate recreational facilities and activities.

 

These events have taken place in the park for many years. Similar terms and conditions have been entered into in prior agreements although with a shorter term. A certificate of insurance approved by the office of the county counselor is required pursuant to section 5 of the agreement.

 

A certificate of insurance, approved by the County Counselor, is required to be provided prior to the event in accordance with Section 5 of the Agreement.
